Fifth Grade Room 502
*Science Project: We will be doing a fun science project next week. If you have any pine cones cluttering up your yard, please send them in with your child on Monday 🙂 Thank you!
*Parent/Teacher Conferences: It was great to meet with parents to touch base about all the awesome stuff happening in 5th grade! If any questions or concerns arise, please let me know.
*Saint Report: Our final copy of the saint report is due Thursday, Oct. 26th. The rough drafts are looking good, excited to see the final product!
Religion: We are on Ch. 5: “Made in His Image”. In this religion series, students are asked to memorize answers to questions throughout the year. Please encourage your child to bring home their religion book to periodically review questions we have gone over in class. We are working on the Saint Report. Your child should be taking notes on their saint (note sheet has been given out) using at least 2 sources, at least 1 of them being a book. Notes are due Monday, 10/9, rough draft is due Monday, 10/16, and typed final copy with cover picture, title page, and bibliography is due Thurs, 10/26. Please partner with me to help your child revise and edit the paper. On 11/1 students should “dress up” as their saint for the All Saints Day Mass.
Reading: We are learning about cause and effect and are reading “Interrupted Journey.” We take the reading comprehension quizzes on Tuesdays and vocab quizzes on Wednesdays.
Spelling: We are starting the spelling words from Lesson 6, working on the vowel and r sounds. I always begin the new spelling unit on a Friday by assigning the practice pages in the workbook and they are due on the following Wednesday. That way if students have time and want to they can work on them over the weekend or they can complete them on Monday and Tuesday. Spelling pretests will be on Mondays and final tests on Thursdays.
Writing/Grammar: We are learning about verbs. Workbook pages we begin on Thursdays and are due on Wednesdays. We take our grammar quiz on Wednesdays.
Math: We are working on Ch 3, Division. Having our multiplication facts memorized really helps the work go much faster. Please be reviewing the facts at home with your child.
History: We are reading Ch. 3 and learning about the conquistadors.
Science: We are learning about how living things grow.
Please check your child’s assignment notebook for the daily work they are expected to complete and when it is due.
