Weekly message – October 16-17 and 23-27
Friday was a beautiful to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima. Throughout the week there were a number of activities to prepare for this day. Mr. Sanislo, our art teacher, gave every student a print of a painting he did a number of years ago showing the children and Our Lady of Fatima. He mentioned to me that this print should fit a ready -made frame if you choose to frame it for your child. Fifth grade students made prayer cards. They have one to share and one to keep for themselves. Today we went to Mass and after lunch prayed the rosary as a school.
Students will dress as their saint from their saint report, for Mass on All Saints Day, November 1st. This does not need to be anything fancy. If you are having trouble coming up with an idea making a sign the student can carry would be acceptable.
PLEASE, NO NUTS IN THE CLASSROOM INCLUDING PEANUT BUTTER. THANK YOU.
Educate is the electronic tool we use here at school to keep track of your child’s grades. Most of you have already used it when you went to the web site at the end of each trimester to check your child’s progress. Beginning in 5th grade you can access your child’s grade book page at any time to see how they are doing.
Reminder there is no school next week Wednesday-Friday. Teachers will attend a Conference at the convention center on Wednesday with many other teachers from the catholic schools in our diocese.

The following items are a general outline of our week in each subject. Please check your child’s assignment notebook every day to know the specific work for that day and when homework for that day is due.
RELIGION: Mass for this week is on Tuesday, October 17th. Reminder: No shorts on Mass day! We finish reading chapter 4 “Realm of Angels,” and take the test on Tuesday, October 17th. Students have begun working on a saint report that we do each year in 5th grade. The rough draft is due on Monday, October 16th and the final copy is due on Thursday, October 26th. Students will dress as their saint for Mass on All Saints Day, November 1st. This does not need to be anything fancy. READING: This week we are taking the unit 1 reading test. We are beginning Junior Great Books the week of October 24th. We will also review cause and effect and antonyms. The workbook pages for these skills are 61-63 and are due on Wednesday, October 25th.
WRITING: We are taking the unit 1 test and begin working on lesson 6, reviewing verbs. The workbook pages for this lesson are 67-71 and will be due Wednesday, October 25th.
SPELLING: The lesson 6 spelling words this week, have an r plus vowel sound. The workbook pages for lesson one are 64-66, and will be due on Wednesday, October 25th. I always begin the new spelling unit on a Friday, by assigning the practice pages in the workbook, and they are due on the following Wednesday. That way if students have time and want to work on it over the weekend they can and otherwise they can work on it the following Monday or Tuesday. The pretest is always on Monday or Tuesday if Monday drops out and the final test is on Thursday.
MATH: We are working on division in chapter 3. Watch your child’s assignment notebook for daily workbook pages.
HISTORY: We are beginning chapter 3 “Conquistadors for Christ” The workbook pages that go with this chapter are 10-15.
SCIENCE: We are reading Chapter 4 “Living Things Grow and Reproduce.” We will return to chapter 2 sometime after the New Year.
