¡Bienvenidos! Welcome to Middle School Spanish!

Week of 10/9 – 10/13   This Friday is the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Fatima!

The 6th grade students are taking a test on Tuesday or Wednesday (depending on their class section) to show their knowledge of the Spanish-speaking countries, capitals, and location of the countries. They were assigned online practice in addition to the practice we’ve been doing in class to learn this information. Then they will be practicing the high frequency structures “hay” (“there is/are”) and “me gusta/te gusta/le gusta” (“I/you/she/he likes”) the rest of this week through next Tuesday before MEA.

The students in 7th grade are wrapping up Unit 1 Lesson 1, in which they have been communicating their likes and dislikes and those of their friends, as well as where they and others are from. They are also working on adding details to increase their level of proficiency (When do they like to do certain activities? With whom? Where? Why?) They will be assigned a speaking assessment to complete outside of class, and they will be completing an interpersonal speaking assessment and writing assessment in class. See the unit overview attached below for a summary of the objectives they are trying to prove they can do on these assessments.

8th grade students are continuing to use the Super 7 verbs. These high frequency verbs are es, tiene, le gusta, hay, está, va, and quiere. This week they will be participating in more “Story-Asking” (telling/acting a story as a class, through lots of questions and students suggesting ideas for various parts of the story – all in Spanish!), extended readings, and a timed writing based on the stories they’ll be reading (which are infused with those high frequency verbs!) They are beginning to acquire the past tense of these verbs as well! They will take a test on these high frequency verbs in the format of sentence translations, comprehension of short stories containing the structures, and writing a story retell.
