1st Communion Weekend is here! Congratulations to all of the 1st Communicants and their families! Thank you to everyone for helping your child prepare. They worked so hard and are truly ready! I can’t wait to see everyone in their Sunday best!
Tech Week started yesterday as well. Next week all students may wear their drama T Shirts everyday with the exception of Tuesday for Mass. They may wear their uniform and then change into their T Shirt.
Finally, I will not be sending home a homework checklist the week of 4/24. Please make sure your child studies their spelling words, works to memorize their poem, and does any sheets that come home that may have been unfinished during the school day. Thank you and have a wonderful week!

Note: We do not have a peanut allergy in our room, but we do have an allergy to pets so unfortunately we will not be able to have any more pets come to visit. So sorry!
Subject Area News:
Weeks of 4/23/18
This week we move to Ch. 29 – Jesus Returns to the Father. We will study the Ascension as it approaches and what happens after Jesus goes back to His Father. We will also work on our Sacrament Books and 1st Communion Frames. Please make sure I get a picture of your child on 1st Communion Day as we use those pictures for the frames.
Prayers to practice at home – We pray the rosary daily in class and are learning all parts of it. They will naturally learn the prayers through repetition, however, if you could practice the Sign of the Cross, Glory Be, Our Father, Hail Mary, Apostles Creed, and Hail Holy Queen at home as well, that would be wonderful. We are also working on the Angelus, the Memorare, and the new Act of Contrition at school as an entire school.
Our week continues with the Junior Great Books story My Grandmother’s Gourd, a realistic fiction selection based in Sudan about a small village that just got a new water pump installed. It’s a story of a child torn between the new and old ways of doing things in her culture. Test, Friday, 4/27.
Poetry Cafe – Everyone should be working on memorizing their poem right now. The Poetry Cafe will be on Thursday afternoon May 3rd. Thank you!
We are just finishing up our compare/contrast paragraphs and will now move on to writing “How To” papers about something we can teach someone to do in detail. We are using transition words and working to write our steps in logical order.
For the week of 4/23 Hawks & Wrens – aw, oi vs. oy. Eagles – prefixes -un, -re, -a, -in. Test, Friday, 4/27.
Ch. 7 – Money & Time continues this week. We will finish up our work with Money and move on to telling time this week. Please work with you child on telling time on an analog clock vs. a digital one. Our goal is to tell time to the quarter hour. Also, please help them by taking our random amounts of change and having them count the money nightly. I have some bags with actual coins in them here at school. However, if you could share a small baggie of coins with your child they can use them in school. It’s always nice to work with actual money. 4 quarters, 10 dimes, 20 nickles, 10 pennies, and 2 50 cent pieces are recommended.
We also continue our new math facts routine and continue graphing our results.
History continues as we learn about America Moving West! In Science our next unit is all about Plants. Are any of your plants growing because ours have not sprouted yet!
You can access both the Reading & Science curriculum via Think Central – https://www-k6.thinkcentral.com/ePC/start.do. Students can read the book online and much more. I sent home information about how to log into Think Central. If you did not get it, please let me know and I will send it home again. IXL has been getting a lot of use for Math.
